Yesterday my friend of 43 years and I were out shopping. It was rather windy and as soon as we pulled into our parking space she exclaimed “Oh, no!”, jumped out of the vehicle and chase a run-away shopping cart that was headed for the side of a brand new SUV. She caught it in time, but I don’t think the owner had any idea she saved him his deductible…

Bulging Tire
While driving home from work in St. Paul, MN some 18 years ago, I happened to be following a truck with a raised suspension. We were on a road that was primarily used to access a highway system, and I became alarmed when I noticed a grapefruit-sized bulge on the inside wall of the driver’s side rear tire. I knew that if this truck were to enter the freeway, the tire could erupt sending the vehicle into a terrible accident. I honked my horn and waved my arm out the window to get the driver’s attention. Thank goodness this was a driver who used his rear view mirror because I was able to direct him to the side of the road where I showed him the bulge in his tire. Thankfully, we were near a gas station where he could call for help, and as he did, I left never having given him my name. I have felt blessed by having this opportunity to prevent what could have been a tragic accident. Now I feel more blessed to have a forum such as this to share my story. Thank you.

God, is looking for good people.
God, is always looking for people that he can trust to do his work. It might not seem like a lot (43 year old friend) . God is watching over you and your family.

Human nature!
I think it’s our natural human nature to do what we know is the right thing! I think what the friend did was to act on her natural instinct to prevent something bad happening! God Bless all who are like that!

We are everyone
If I do something, it’s proof that at least one person has done such a thing; whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing. It’s simple logic. Therefore, how in the world can I expect someone to do something good to me or for me if I have no proof that people do such things. So I do good things sometimes, randomly for people and strangers. Its proof to me that there are people like that in the world. Sometimes I meet myself in another person, doing something nice for me. It really feels good. I really appreciate it and knowing that there are people like that in the world.

Challenge that Law/Ordinance!
That is certainly one law that does not need to be on the books! I would say that the law interferes with the right to the pursuit of happiness, in regards to not being allowed to top off parking meters. I’m willing to bet that there are not even laws such as these in communist countries! I would top off that meter right in front of a member of law enforcement! It had to be a bunch of ridiculous unenlightened ninnies who voted that into law! It’s pretty scary sometimes when one considers the qualifications of the members of local government. Most times, one can find much more qualified people in the administrations of private industry!

People who respond to others’ difficulty, even with no recognition, will feel their own reward, having been humanly inspired to act. I have certainly been uplifted by any incidents that have allowed me to aid others.

Parking Meters
The law regarding parking meters is not about “fair” or “justice” or “nice” or any other positive word. It is about revenue enhancement. The jurisdiction gets more money from fines that it does from the quarters we put in the meters. If the powers that be cannot fine the person who parked (because you added a coin to the meter), they will fine you. Quoting George Washington, “Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”

Compassion
When I try to imagine the fall this poor man would have experienced after two hip replacements, my blood shivers. You were his guiding angels.
