I was director of HR for nine years for a large urban school district. I was passionate about children being the priority. I supported committed, effective teachers, but worked to transition out ineffective, abusive teachers and administrators.
Work of HR during my tenure was recognized by two state agencies and an independent performance review.
I complained about a principal who made a child eat of the garbage who I was not allowed to terminate, but the firing of a principal who insulted adults was required.
I refused to participate in unfair treatment of employees who had no connection to political power. I reported theft and mismanagement of district assets purchased with tax payer dollars and to avoid public scrutiny, the issue was not addressed.
I lived my integrity and paid the price. I was not the only person to pay the price for doing was right. I would not do anything differently.
Students deserve to be the priority in public education….

I understand what you are saying….I reported negligent treatment of patients that led to a death and other serious errors in a hospital and am paying the price…..doing the right thing is difficult, but my compass has always been – “if this was my child or my family member what would I want others to do?” Should people just stand by and do nothing, or should someone say something?
