Go The Extra Mile For Other People By Choice

Being in my own office cleaning business since 1992 has taught me one major life lesson. Nowadays, you hear people say ” that’s not my job”. Many people do as little as possible at work instead of the most possible.

There have been many times when, there were doors left unlocked that should have been locked. I locked them and left a note regarding this unusual situation. Sometimes an alarm had not been turned on, even though everyone had left for the day.  Again, I corrected it and left a note about this unusual situation.  Sometimes a coffee pot burner had been left turned on and should have been turned off as it was a fire hazard. I turned it off and left a note about it.

My point is, that just because you don’t have to do something, does not mean that you should not do it. Make a little extra effort for the sake of everyone.  Go an extra mile now and then. People will appreciate it and it really says something good about you.

Its our responsibility

I was in a simular situation only we were being warned by management for not completeing our janitoral duties. So some reacted on impulse and forgot to say we are doing our best under the circumstances. You see these people and myself are doing far above what is expected of us. Your concern should not be with these who show up and work their 8 hours everynight but with the one who comes in and goes home when they want. Oh was the word from the manager tell me whats going on. You have a crew of 5 people and each of us does our designated work and then we squeez 2 more hours upon that.Because the one who is consistently absent also has 8 hours. So each of us takes 2 hours each and squeez it into the 8 hours already designated. So in actuality we are doing 10 hours work in 8 hours. ,,,I said there is an equasion of work that is always right. If you go by sq feet for example Sq feet X Money per sq X time = $$$$ meaning you just got 50 hours work out of 40 hours. So we should be complimented for pushing the envelope and getting it done, But it leads to bad moral when no one appreciates what you,ve done without asking. The pressure on the low end is not seen as much as on the upper. Oh by the way there are cameras going all the time check them once and awhile and you,ll see who,s working and who is not. A thank you is in order…..GM
