A Pregnant, Stranded, Soldier

It was 1989, I was a Soldier in the United States Army, and my husband and I were expecting our first child. My mother had cancer when I was two years old and was unable to have more children, so she was looking forward to the day when she would become a grandmother. Tragically, she was murdered before we started a family, and never got to hold her granddaughter. I was stationed in Hawaii when the man who murdered her first stood trial. I caught a Military Space-Available flight to California, where I planned on catching a connecting flight to make the first day of the trial in Oregon. Unfortunately, I arrived in California too late to make the connecting flight, and there weren’t any more military flights until the next day which would be too late. My only option was to take an hour taxi ride to the next town, where I could catch a commercial flight to Portland. I ran into another stranded service member, who also needed to catch a taxi to the other airport and offered to split the cab fare with me. However, I didn’t have an ATM card to access my checking account and the Western Union office on base wouldn’t be open until 8:00 a.m. the next morning. I was standing there exhausted, pregnant, in my Class B’s, and wondering what to do, when a woman approached me and said “I overheard your conversation and I’d like to help.” She then proceeded to hand me $160, which was a lot of money back in 1989. Even more amazing was that she didn’t even ask me for my name or contact information, she just wrote down her name and address on a piece of paper and told me to send her the money when I got where I was going. Twenty years later, I still remember her name and what a blessing she was in my time of need.

Mrs.

I was asked by someone close to me why I so often will go out of my way to do a ‘‘favor”
for someone, friend or stranger, and my answer was that I treat people the way I would wish them to treat me. Also I feel happy and blessed to have the opportunity to do a good turn.

Good Samaritan

I used to know a mechanic who had no family except his elderly father. Every holiday this mechanic would put his tools in his pickup, load up on cans of gasoline and oil and hit the road. He patrolled an area up to 50 miles around his home looking for people in need. When he found someone who was stranded by a disabled car, he stopped and fixed the car if he could (and he usually could). He supplied a little gas to the next gas station and whatever else was needed to relieve the traveller’s situation. This man has moved away from this part of the country now; but on Thanksgiving or Christmas, I always think of him and wish him well.

Angels Unaware!

‘Random Acts of Kindness’, ‘Angels Unaware’, Miracles, Standing in the Gap for others (physically or by prayer), signs and wonders ‘will’ follow those who “love the Lord”! My whole life has been a constant tapestry of Gods existence! I have near died 9 times, my 3 children are still here by God’s provision and all through this I have had “many” people step up to the plate and “prove” the passage – “Give & it shall be given, good measure… shall ‘men’ (by Gods prompting on their heart! – these DO NOT have to be “saved, knowing God” people) give unto ‘US’ – those who ‘know & love’ the Lord of Hosts!! I too have ‘lost’ my mother to very questioning circumstances of which she was “purposely” killed due to her violent death – the real truth remains with her & God! Since then God in His infinite wisdom has protected and shielded me from multiple grave harm that has crossed my path over the years. One pastor stated that God gave him a vision one night & in it he saw people traveling – some with no angels & others with various numbers of them. God had told him that the ones without are not saved, the others are given up to 4 angels for protection – depending on what God has for them to do & where they have to travel! The majority of people have ‘only’ 1 angel and to the missionaries they have 4! God is not a forsaker of persons – like the Foot Prints in the Sand – HE is there to the end!
God Bless Our Country & may His Glory & Mercy continue to shine,
Pat

Sad - hope u find Peace.

You are too young to be drinking — and the Lord Jesus Christ can lift
you out of your pain. U R a child of the King. Go in peace and ask for
help. I had a son die young results of “substance abuse” it is the hardes
thing I experienced – but I can share the hope of eternal life with Jesus
Christ as a result. He is asleep in the arms of the Lord.

Pay it Forward...

More than thirty years ago after a falling out with my family, my Dad’s cousin invited me to their home for Christmas in Arkansas. I was so young, living alone in Chicago and was feeling very abandoned. I had been quite ill with pneumonia and in retrospect, had no business trying to drive cross country, but I took my old dog with me and he was good company. I got as far as a little town in Missouri when I was so exhausted I didn’t think I could drive another mile or keep my eyes open. I stopped at a tiny deserted cafe in the middle of nowhere when the cafe owner eyed me and could tell how sick I was. He saw my old dog sitting in the car and he told me to go get the dog and come around to the back door. He let us in to sit in the warmth of the kitchen where my dog curled up under my feet. The man cooked us up some of the most wonderful homemade chicken soup and biscuits, providing a generous portion of the cooled concoction for my dog that he put in a plastic ice cream bucket. We talked for a long time. He told me not to feel sad and alone because we are never alone as we think we are. He assured me that I would make it there just fine and he sent us on our way with plenty of the soup and biscuits. He refused to take any money from me. My dog, who rarely took to strangers just wagged his tail gratefully when the man leaned down to pat him on the head. We made it to Arkansas where my extended family took good care of me for the next 10 days.

I never forgot that we must sometimes count on and be grateful for the kindness of a complete stranger. Many times I have offered a kind word, food, lodging or some money for someone who was feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders and I have done so in many places around the world. I always do it for the joy of giving and knowing the positive mark you leave on a person’s soul when you do so. All these years later I can’t remember the name of the town and frankly don’t believe the man ever told me his name, but he was able to change my world one act of kindness at a time.

Thankyou Carol Baker for sharing that experience. I can’t tell you how much I related to both you and the old man that helped you and your dog. I just discovered this site, and to think you just wrote it less than an hour ago! It really did my heart good —reading your tale & the words of all these other beautiful people on here.
