It was 1989, I was a Soldier in the United States Army, and my husband and I were expecting our first child. My mother had cancer when I was two years old and was unable to have more children, so she was looking forward to the day when she would become a grandmother. Tragically, she was murdered before we started a family, and never got to hold her granddaughter. I was stationed in Hawaii when the man who murdered her first stood trial. I caught a Military Space-Available flight to California, where I planned on catching a connecting flight to make the first day of the trial in Oregon. Unfortunately, I arrived in California too late to make the connecting flight, and there weren’t any more military flights until the next day which would be too late. My only option was to take an hour taxi ride to the next town, where I could catch a commercial flight to Portland. I ran into another stranded service member, who also needed to catch a taxi to the other airport and offered to split the cab fare with me. However, I didn’t have an ATM card to access my checking account and the Western Union office on base wouldn’t be open until 8:00 a.m. the next morning. I was standing there exhausted, pregnant, in my Class B’s, and wondering what to do, when a woman approached me and said “I overheard your conversation and I’d like to help.” She then proceeded to hand me $160, which was a lot of money back in 1989. Even more amazing was that she didn’t even ask me for my name or contact information, she just wrote down her name and address on a piece of paper and told me to send her the money when I got where I was going. Twenty years later, I still remember her name and what a blessing she was in my time of need.

I just had a similar experience--the other way aro
While traveling in SW Missouri about a month ago in my 34 ft motorhome I stopped at a gas station to get gas. A man approached me with two children in tow (a boy and a girl—ages about 10 and 12) and asked me to buy some gas for his vehicle. He told me that he had maxed out his credit card in Texas when his transmission needed repaired. I asked him several questions: where he was headed (home was about 200 miles toward St Louis); they were on the return trip from seeing his sister in TX. It seemed like a con job in the making—-but I put 10 gallons in his car and gave him by business card and he promised to send me the money. I have not received the money—I got conned but that is OK—it is his karma. What goes around comes around they say and I’m convinced that is a universal law. His kids now know better how to con someone! endsend

Stranded...
I can realate to your story. I was stationed at Keesler AFB, MS in 1982 when my five year old daughter was murdered. I needed to get home right away. It was the Red Cross volunteer who worked through the night to get me a ticket home. She had everything set up for me by daybreak the next day. She did this without me ever getting her name. I was inspired by her act of kindness and try to help strangers whenever I discover a need before me.
I am more willing to help or give if I find out about it rather than someone approaching me with a story. It presents a true choice. In your case, the person who learned of your need could have just walked away. She was intentional about helping you out and that is amazing. I never forgot those who have helped me in my time of need or have shown up as angels of mercy.
Thank you for you service to our country also.

Guardian Angel
That was your guardian angel. It just reminds us that there are still good, kind and thoughtful people in the world. Sometimes when we think not another hurdle to jump over and just in time someone was looking out for you.

Follower of God
How hard life can be sometimes. The other day in a worship-session here on No. California’s rugged coast, I felt Jesus wants to fill the gaps or black holes that severe grief leave in the wake of a loss. He told me to pray for all those who lost someone, a father, a mother, a child, that His Presence, Jesus Himself would make an abode in the place of sorrow, in other words, move in, and bring Comfort to those who hurt so much.
A couple of days ago, a young woman called me, her truck had stopped, she needed gas, and was on her way to work and had NO money to rent a gas-can, and no money to get gas. I drove down my little country-road, and picked up the girl, then we stood in front of the cashier, who needed $10 to make sure we returned the container. We were at a loss, i silently asked for Help. A stranger in line behind us handed her a $10 bill, and i put a gallon of cas on my card. He said he was happy to do this, we were both speechless at such obvious generosity, realizing God put this on his heart, and he obeyed! May we all be like that in these difficult times. Share, give, love. Leave a mark.

God is good
He is constantly working in the lives of people who let Him in. What a blessing you received on that day as I trust justice was served also. Nothing can NEVER replace a mother as you are well aware, no doubt you are blessed. I love God and know His works. I pray more people want to know and love Him,,, there’s nothing like the love of God.

Kindness Echoes
I love it when by the Holy Spirit God confirms something that is on your heart and mind. Today I posted a comment on my Facebook Page about Kindness. It was something like this: Some people believe that there is not a lot of hope for the world. I believe each one of us has the power to change the world. How you might ask? By practicing random acts of kindness. If everyone lived like this the world would be a better place. Remember Jesus is our greatest example of this. Kindness echoes. Will you help change the world?. Later today I came across this Liberty Mutual Responsibility site which deals with the same thing. I have lived my life by this motto of “Practicing Random Acts of Kindness”. Often as portrayed in “DK Finds His Soul” it is thanksless, but that does not matter. What matters is that you have positively effected someone else and that kindness you give will somehow find it’s way back to you. As I practice this I have experienced many instances where others have shown me a Random Act of Kindness. Often we may be tempted to get discouraged at the way things are and how thoughtless people can be, but by showing kindness to others we can create hope within ourselves and in others. Thank you for creating the Responsibilty Project and for helping to spread the message. God Bless!
