Discussion Guide for Growing Up
The following are questions that can be used in guiding a discussion about the film Growing Up.
1) It’s been said that our lives are defined by the decisions we make. Do you think that’s true? If so, what are some experiences in your life—or in others’ lives—where that has been the case?
2) It’s not always easy to do the right or responsible thing. Why make the extra effort?
3) If you’ve seen how someone was affected when you did the right thing, how did that make you feel?
4) What have you learned from your own experiences if you had to overcome obstacles in order to do the right thing?
5) How would you describe the impact of acting responsibly in the world? Is the impact immediate or a slow build?
6) Complete this phrase: “I try to do the right thing because….”
7) Complete this phrase: “If most people didn’t do the right thing in this world, I think we would be….”
8) Where do you think we as humans get our sense of responsibility?
9) Do you have a role model when you think about what it means to do the right thing in life? If so, who? What kinds of challenges and obstacles do you think that person encountered on the journey to do the right thing?
10) How can we act in a more responsible way to make our world a better place?
