Oh, the possibilities...
Yes, it is possible for a company to lower their costs by going green, but it isn't likely (otherwise MANY more companies would be going green). Going green has always been more expensive than cutting corners and letting a little more pollution slide. Now, with companies raising their prices, that's fine, with consumer products (anything you would buy at the store) because you have a choice in price right there between product 1, 2, or 3, or to just not buy it at all. However, when a company puts in extra charges to its customers for a service they already receive, especially without notifying them (which is what I understand is exactly what this engineering company did) then they have done wrong, no matter how good the intentions are. Companies are required to notify all consumers about changes in price for services with adequate reason and time to switch if they want. People who want to pay the extra can stay, people who want a cheaper service can move on to another company (assuming, of course, there is another company to go to).

Fine line
Ah, you said it yourself, it is up to the organization to allow or disallow the use of chemical enhancement, which is why every sporting league in the country has banned their use as a prerequisite for participation. I see no reason that those private organizations could not do the same for such mental pursuits, or the Department of Education, for that matter. The difference between study/practice and 'doping' is that practice and study are natural, permanent increases to ability with no drawbacks (other than the fact that they take time). Chemical enhancement can (and usually does) lead to abuse, dependency, and harmful side effects which commonly do occur with continual use. With practice, injury is the exception. With chemicals, it's the rule. For an organization to allow such use within their ranks forces everyone within those ranks to subject themselves to the same treatment if they wish to be able to compete. That is unethical on the organization's part.

Thomas Jefferson warned us...
This is a classic case of a runaway judiciary. Some Judge gets uppity and starts making law like he's the kind of the land. He decides what's best, and no one can contradict him or remove him. Thomas Jefferson warned us of this WAY back when the check-and-balances system we use and love was made. There just aren't enough checks and veto power against the Judiciary branch by the Legislature. The Legislature, led by the people of the United States, should be able to overturn a Judge's decision. The Judge should be accountable to the people, not the other way around.
