  1. I agree, but...

You do not have to drink with your kids to address the issue – just as you don't have to be responsibly promiscuous around your kids to teach them about safe sex. Talking with our kids and having our actions follow it up does a lot. We don't need to allow our kids to do something illegal (and by the way if in your state it’s not illegal, I have no problem) to teach our kids the right way to handle something. That is a huge oxymoron, and quite hypocritical.

  2. Absolutely right!

Completely true. There are older adults who are sharp as a tack at 90, and some who lose it when their 50. I don't think there should be a designated age when a person is no longer considered responsible. That would be unfair to those who are. There should certainly be legal ramifications for institutions who take advantage of the elderly and exploit them for profits sake.

  3. I can see both sides

On the one hand, I can see how such a law would be a bad idea, if it went so far as to fine for leaving your light on, but yeah, if you're in New York City, and there are blackouts and brownouts because of irresponsible energy consumption, then by all means, people, use some common sense, and use sidewalk signs and other advertisements (which are, by the way tax deductible) to get people to come in, rather than wasting energy to cool someone off as they momentarily stroll past your open door... In Iowa they have made public smoking illegal because of health ramifications. We need to protect our environment, and I think, just as with smoking, if people won't act responsible without legal ramifications, by all means, make a law. If people don't want it to be a law, because of the great land we live in, they can vote against it.

My Policy

Being a responsible parent means being present enough to know what is going on; to stand back far enough to let them experience a learn; and, wise enough to know when not to intervene.
