It is smart to get involved to prevent a hazard or an accident. Many times people won’t
get involved for fear on the outcome. Group think and fear and group nuances hypnotize keep us from responding objectively. For example the speed limit is 65 the road and the weather is clear so everyone goes 75+ there are so many cars just over the limit so no car is given a ticket. Someone makes a driver error and you have a pile up. Group think distorts one’s perception of reality or ethics. People may not get involved because of the “fear of the powerful or the outcome” For example military vehicles may set in the motor pool for several months. Am officer complains about the government gas being no good. A Spec 4 that knows chemistry says that it isn’t the fuel but because it is 95 octane the officer is intimidated by the Spec 4 knowledge. Tells the Spec 4 to drive his car around and fill it up with government gas. The
Spec 4 tells the officer that that it unethical to fill his car with government gas.
The officer orders the Spec 4 out of the motor pool.The officer and his crew towed the Spec 4 car around to the gas pump and filled it up with gas and parked it back where it was. When the Spec 4 returned back to his car the officer and his crew stood around and thought that the car would start and of course it did. Next the officer and his crew attempted to charge the Spec 4 with stealing government gas. The Spec 4 hired a good lawyer. Why was that necessary to hire a good lawyer? it was because when people in positions of authority abuse their power. It may have the same consequence as the “group think” on the highway death and destruction.
A culture that abuses their frequently may cause illusions of the “abuse of power”.
One needs to read Philip Zimbardo’s and Stanleys Milgram’s research- the outcomes are predictable.

MY YOUNG SISTER, VIRGINIA ,AND MY OLDER SISTER, MARY, BOTH DIED SHORTLY AFTER MY HUSBAND, ART .DIED. HE WAS FROM NILES, MICHIGAN.

WE MET AT MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY.

re: "good vibrations" film

I applaud this film! It very effectively conveys the message so many parents reiterate to their children, i.e. “so, if all your friends decided to (fill-in-the-blank)…would you do it, too?” It shows that doing the right thing often means going against the grain, against the general population, against what’s “popular” (even though I believe the old man was totally oblivious to the crowd above). The “herd mentality” that takes place above the sidewalk is actually rather disturbing to me, but it is, unfortunately, what we frequently encounter in this country. I find it interesting that the one person who did the right thing was someone much older—someone from a time when there seems to have been more of a moral and ethical code. There is so much more I could say about this, but I will refrain. I hope these films or others like them are being shown in the schools to kids who otherwise, due to lack of parenting, will have no moral/ethical compass to guide them. It is time to create more citizens with character and conscience.

I NEVER UNDERSTOOD THIS PHRASE , BUT AS I ‘VE GROWN AND LEARNED ABOUT MYSELF, LIFE, AND LIFE SITUATIONS ……I’VE BEEN FORTUNATE TO GET A REAL GRASP ON WHAT THIS PHRASE MEANS. I SAW A DISTINGUISHED OLDER GENTLEMAN WHO APPEARED TO BE HAVING A HARD TIME PHYSICALLY ()I CAN RELATE TO), AND I BELIEVE HE WAS IN DANGER OF FALLING ,HIS ADDITUDE I BELIEVE IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT,BECAUSE IT TELLS ME HE HE CAN LAUGH AT HIMSELF AND LIFE. THEN THERE IS THE MAN THAT I S WORKING SO, HARD WHO APPEARS TO BE UNABLE TO SEE THINGS AROUND HIM DUE TO WORKING SO HARD LIE MANY WORKERS TODAY, AND LAST, THE LITTLE BOY WHO WAS CHUCKELED AT MAYBE,OR CHUCKELED WITH..
