The Home Run

The Home Run

In The Home Run something extraordinary happens when two women’s college softball teams take the field in the 9th inning of an otherwise unremarkable game. Behind by a score of 2-0, the home team hasn’t given up—against the odds—but they also haven’t been able to hit much off the formidable fastball pitcher they face.

Until K.C.—who’s never hit a long-haul homerun—comes to bat. She connects with the ball, but that’s not why this true story captured headlines and hearts when it happened in 2008.

It’s because it redefined true sportsmanship.

And reminded us that winning isn’t everything.

And that doing the right thing sometimes means throwing out the rule book.

Because it’s never over until it’s over.

The Home Run

I’ve played and coached softball for a long time .The main thing I tried to teach my girls was sportmanship was more important than winning. It brought such joy to my heart to see that those girls had the spirit that I tried so hard to instill in the girls that I coached, it brought me to tears.

81 year old retired construction supervisor.

The real winners are the girls that carried her around the bases. They will have that to reflect on all of their lives. It will bring more satisfaction than had they won the game.

Once When I went to the nationals. We were down 4 to 6. Double elimination (lost once). Two outs two strikes, it was the real all or nothing game. Our best player Jessica (Jess) hit a liner right up the middle with someone on sceond they both got home.It felt like heaven when we won!

Sportmanship

The girls that carried her around the bases show really good sportmanship. They showed that they were responsible for letting the other team still win because they deserved it. I have played softball my whole life and other sports to but all my coaches always wanted us to show good sportmanship and respect so thats really all we show on our teams. When someone gets hurt when they get up we always clap for them. So in the end of this both teams won.

Softball

I have played softball for 4 years now.Softball means alot to me and i love it =].. My coach Ms. Morelli has always told us we need to show respect and always good sportsmanship no matter if the other team shows you it or not. Be a better team and do your best, its not always about winning. Also im not the best up to bat. My friends and teammates are always up cheering us on. So i liked the part of the flim that they carried their teammate around the bases. They came back to win and that reminds me of my school. we r always down but some how we come back at the end.

My family and I have seen the film several times. We still cannot get over how the losing team managed to overcome feelings of sadness and despair to do the noble thing.
This film should be shown as much as possible to as many people as possible.

The true meaning of softball

well, I think that this is a great story because not many people would do something like that. I love to play softball so I know how it feels to lose and how it feels to win. Its a great part of peoples lives and what they did is above anything a preson would do.But as long as I play softball I will always want to play like that.
