Needling Questions: Immunizing Kids
If you choose not to have your child vaccinated against measles, mumps, chicken pox, and other infectious diseases, does your responsibility end there?
It’s a debate that continues as the trend for not vaccinating children increases.
Parents who believe that vaccinations are linked to autism, or who object for religious or other reasons, balk at government regulations that bar their unvaccinated children from attending school if they don’t have the required shots. One anti-vaccination group calls forced vaccination “a violation of human rights.”
But those on the opposite side of the argument say not vaccinating violates the rights of others. According to officials at the Centers for Disease Control, “The decision not to vaccinate is a decision for your child but also a decision for society.” They say that unlike other medical issues where refusing treatment affects only the patient, refusing vaccinations puts others at risk as well, including newborns and people with suppressed immune systems.
Parents of unimmunized children rely on the vast majority of kids who do get their shots, figuring there’s little polio, measles, chicken pox or other pathogens to be found among so many protected kids. But with recent measles outbreaks in four states, that protection may not be enough. “We are seeing outbreaks that look different, concentrated among intentionally unimmunized people,” says an immunization official. “I hope they’re not the beginning of a worse trend.”
Tell us what you think: When it comes to vaccinations, do parents have a responsibility beyond their own children?

Responsibilty and Vacinations
Responsibility starts with oneself, extends to our families and loved ones, but continues to our community and society as a whole. To imply that parents who choose not to have their children vaccinated are putting others at risk is a very narrow view of the situation. Most of us who reject vaccinations as a viable health option do so because we know that there are better choices. And these choices are based on scientific research and input. For the media to promote only the views of the government, the AMA, CDC and WHO without giving equal time to reporting the many alternate views of disease control by professionals in the field is giving only half the story. Our health care choices are made because we want to take full responsibility for our lives and help educate others to do the same. Full reporting on both sides of all issue supports liberty and justice for all. Slanting coverage to one side only is propaganda not news. Good reporters find the alternative views. Reading “news” releases from “accepted” sources is not reporting at all.

Tough Question
This is a very hard question to answer. Parents have an obligation to their children and community which is why this is such a hard question. I worked with a little girl at a local physical therapy center who was once very normal and healthy. That is until she received a flew vaccination and was permanently affected. She cannot talk, however she tries her best to communicate, and she cannot walk. She is about six years old right now and her family is working on potty training her and she is progressing towards walking with crutches. To see ths first hand opened my eyes to the serious side effects these vaccines can have. I believe that vaccines are important but i believe that the side effects are serious enough that parents should have a right to choose whether their child is vaccinated.

Vaccinations
why all of a sudden are we conflicted with this? To vaccinate or not to vaccinate. If autsim is linked to vaccinations, then why are we just now relating the two? my generation this is was not talked about. I was born in the late 80’s and I turned out fine as well as majority of everyone eles that i know. If we do not vaccinate our children they will know what Pollo feels like, they will know what Rubella feels like, and they will know what Hepititis B feels like. In the health care enviroment, we have to have curtain vaccinations to work simply for protection for our patients and ourselves. Why not vaccinate our kids to protect other people and themselves?

WOW
It’s pretty sad that you think that not vaccinating my children is putting yours at risk. I think it is the other way around. I am not afraid of the disease but very afraid of the vaccine!!!! I would rather build and strengthen our immune systems the natural way and have mine and my childrens bodies ready to fight what could be a harmful disease, rather than having the disease and God knows what else they put in the those “things” put directly into our bloddstreams, bypassing our immune system entirely. Money, Money, Money people is all it’s about and the Dr’s out there may not profit first hand but they are the pushers for the people higher up, so really it is all about money and they don’t care who they hurt in the process. I would rather take the chance using the Herbs and natural ways that were put on this earth then put chemicals in my children on the word of someone I have never met.

Double think?
OK, has any one ever read George Orwell’s 1984? Do you remember the thing called double think? It’s where you make a self contradictory statement. The argument that not getting your child vaccinated is putting other kids who were vaccinated in danger is a self contradictory statement. If you believe that the shots are effective, then how can you say that a non vaccinated child is putting a vaccinated child in danger?
Also, the scientific evidence that vaccines cause autism does exist. I get my information from researching it, not from a corporate magazine. The preservatives that the manufacturers use in vaccines often contain mercury, some contain formaldyhide, and there are numerous other materials that are used in the making of vaccines that you would never allow anywhere near your child’s body, yet for some reason it’s ok when someone is making big bucks off of it. Go ahead, give your kid a thermometer that is leaking mercury to play with… Mercury is a neuro toxin. Thimerasol is 49.6% mercury. Some kids might be able to handle that amount of mercury in their system, some can’t some get three or more doses of this in one visit to the doctor, What’s 49.6 times 3?

For those against flu vaccinations
For those of you who are afraid of getting your children H1N1 vaccinations, my sister-in-law would love to trade places with you. Her 13-year old son was life-flighted to a children’s hospital with Swine Flu 10 days ago. He is “holding his own” is all they can say. That and that he has permanent lung damage now. Also, he is beginning to have kidney problems. I think she would have loved for him to had the H1N1 vaccination available in time to save her son this illness and potentially save his life because we don’t know yet if he is going to make it. So when you shout “NO, the beaurocracy CANNOT make me do this!”, remind yourself, that if your child gets the Swine Flu, that it was a choice YOU made! And for those who say it is not a good idea to get vaccinations, where did you get your medical degree?

Money overcomes integrity
I’m concerned for those of you who who cite “Time” Magazine and other media sources as trustworthy resources. As a mother myself with a 10+ yr background in research, I would like to suggest that we all consider the news, magazines and other media as “entertainment” as opposed to real, factual information sources. In this day and age, money is more important to businesses (media included) than integrity. Anyone who has been in business and understands how it works understands what I mean. What I’m saying is, please be aware for what reason and purpose the positive information about vaccinations exist.
Are you all aware that pharmaceuticals is BIG MONEY? Yes, they bring in fortunes annually. Are you aware that the pharmaceuticals who are manufacturing your children’s vaccinations (and your medications as well) often hire and pay their own researchers to administer studies? This should sound fishy, if not completely stun you. I think it should be illegal.
Not to mention, a recent study conducted by Daniele Fanelli of the University of Edinburgh discovered 46% of scientists have observed fellow scientists engaging in questionable practices such as presenting data selectively or changing conclusions of a study in response to pressure from a funding source. Scientists cannot work for free. If the funding source wants a particular outcome, despite what the outcome actually IS, it is highly likely they will receive what they want. Basically, it is the same situation as your boss threatening to fire you unless you tell a “few little lies” to help the company’s product sell.
Be aware also that many “scientific” studies in pharmaceuticals are not scientific at all — there are severe internal flaws where the pharmaceuticals and/or scientists intentionally set up the experiment to create the favored outcome.
Studies are published in academic scientific journals. Most of our population either are not aware of this process or we glaze over when we attempt to read a study. In my experience, scientific journals are difficult to access — and certainly not often free. It is a sad situation. Any conclusion can be derived and represented as “cited from the research” when in fact the people citing have not read the study at all. It is a very rare instance when the news reporters we so greatly rely on for our information actually read a published study themselves.
I am severely disappointed that the very people we trust to help us make healthy decisions for our children (doctors, nurses, scientists, media, gov’t) are the very people either ignorant about their recommendations or, worse yet, outright LYING to us. There is a HUGE incentive for vaccinations and other useless medications to exist as opposed to educating us on how to care for children when they contract a natural childhood disease. The incentive is called MONEY.
If you don’t believe me, go research it yourself. It makes utmost perfect sense.
In the meantime, if you want to read something REAL (yet, not popular) & backed by 471 references, I recommend: “Raising a Vaccine Free Child.” I agree the title may be off-putting, but if you can get beyond that, this book is full of very valuable information — even just to challenge those of you who worship vaccines.
If you’re too closed-minded to challenge your own thinking, you are no doubt living in a self-contained bubble of ignorance. THIS behavior is far from being a good decision-maker for your children. At least back up what you believe in by educating yourself on BOTH SIDES.

who,what,where and why
if you read the history behind all of these diseases you will find that the diseases increased as innoculations increased and decreased as innoculation did. Please learn your bodies, you can’t catch a virus like a baseball.coughing, sneezing, runny nose and vomitting are all signs that the body is trying to heal itself. Healing does’nt come by way of a pill or serum but a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables without any meat or red meat. I find it hard to believe that western medicine can’t heal the common cold, but can prevent a so called” deadly virus”. We teach our kids to say no to drugs but we willingly take them, we even let people put needles in our bloodstreams and ask no questions as to what are the side affects of this action. We then ridicule people who want to know what they are putting into their bodies and their children. Fear and panic are the worse conditions to make a decision. This is the land of the free ad we should be free to dictate our own bodies our childres’s bodies and on our terms. Its funny how concerned the government is with the spread of a virus and not the spread of second hand smoke which kills thousands every year, they even note that the product can cause cancer, but still sell it. Ive even seen doctors smoking on lunch breaks. I know I can trust them with my children’s health. Lol!!

in the opinion of an unvaccinated person
myself, being unvaccinated, believe it is completely the decision of the parent. I have never contracted a deadly disease that vaccines attempt to prevent and in fact know vaccinated people who have contracted the disease that the vaccine meant to prevent. I think that they are unnecesary! So many of the diseases that we are created vaccines for have been irradicated for years! the CDC even states that any cases of polio seen after 1979 are the cause of the vaccine! then why do we still vaccinate our children for polio? The long term risks of neurological diseases are much more important to me than the possability of having chicken pox or a seasonal flu. There is no need for so many vaccines or any at all in my opinion! so don’t freak out if someone you know doesn’t vaccinate their kid. Their simply doing what is best for their family and in no way putting you in danger. trust me. I know ;)
