Mothers With Guns:  Packing Too Much?

Mothers With Guns:  Packing Too Much?

Moms pack many things—endless lunches, bottles, diapers, snacks, toys, wipes, overdue library books, and of course kids.

But does a responsible mom also pack a gun?

The question was recently raised on the website BabyCenter, which chronicles all things motherhood, from conception to inconceivably picky eaters and back-talking three year olds.

On the site, a mom blogger described the terrifying experience of a mother who was attacked at home in a safe neighborhood by a rapist with a gun. The woman fought, the attacker fled, and the blogger posed a question: “Do you think that every mother should own a gun?”

The point-blank debate about point-blank defense revealed that some moms are packing heat.

“I carry a Keltec 380 (small pistol) on my hip everyday,” revealed a mother of a one year old and a two year old. “I feel comfortable knowing that I will be able to defend my kids and I if we are in a life-threatening situation.”

Another mother—eight months pregnant and with a toddler—wrote that her husband works the night shift, and “our gun is the only way I could defend myself and my children should someone intend to do us harm.”

And there was this disclosure from a police officer mom: “I keep a loaded 9mm in my Coach diaper bag.”

Suddenly, it seems, mothers with guns are everywhere—movie star moms included. Recent news reports quote actress Angelina Jolie as saying she keeps a gun at home for security, and that “if anybody comes into my home and tries to hurt my kids, I’ve no problem shooting them.”

Tell us what you think: Should a mother’s responsibility to protect her children include having a gun?

Guns don't kill people, people kill people

The 2nd amendment keeps law abiding people to protect themselfs and their family and property. If the government take away the right to bear arms, the only people that will have a weapon will be the officers of law inforcement, and criminals.

If you do not wish to defend yourself or your family ,that’s fine, but please refrain from criticizing those that wish to be self empowered.

what you will

I am all for moms carrying a concealed weapon with a permit… In today’s society you just never know what may come about, there are some crazy people on the streets and yes a mother has every right to protect themselves and their family. I personally have no enemies but usually carry a gun because the town i live in is well, crappy and there are some of those crazies out here and are very unpredictable.

law abideing gun carry rights

I believe all law abiding citizens should have the right to legally carry a variety of self defense weapons, protecting ones family and posessions in the absence of law enforcement officials is our right. Nobody should be trying to take the law enforcement into their own hands when police are present or close by, bleeding heart liberals would like to take the guns out of the law abiding citizens hands leaving only the criminal who will obtain guns illegally. Criminals do not follow a code or have ethics like regular people, they will steal guns to steal from you or to cause harm to others, Peoplrewho obtain guns legally through proper channels and due process should not be punnished or catagorized like criminals.

tom has the best reasoning

tom, your most valid point is faith in the US government. for someone to have blind faith in uncle sam, is just irrational. if you do, then you REALLY dont know the facts, how most of the government employees (especially police officers) have hardly made their way through high school. furthermore, if citizens did not have fire arms at all, then the government could have complete control, ever read 1984?

What Whould u do if someone is holding a gun to yo

Wake up people u aren’t going to get the guns from the thugs rapists or the drug dealers. Only one that it hurts is the law bidding people. Plain and simple i pitty someone holds a gun to one of my loved ones there dead and they would never get close enough to get a gun to my head,

Mr

Women should be allowed to carry guns with the same background check that “concealed carry” requires. It is obvious that some should not be allowed to carry a weapon.

As you can see

Crime in all categories has steadily decreased with the adoption of Concealed Carry rights in virtually all states.

My point? Simply that criminals are cowards and do not want to encounter an armed opponent. As the odds of encountering an armed opponent increases crime decreases. If gang banggers were locked up and the key thrown away violent crime would hit record lows. However, the anits would rather punish all law abiding gun owners than do away with criminals. I do have some small amount of experience in the arena.
