Mothers With Guns: Packing Too Much?
Moms pack many things—endless lunches, bottles, diapers, snacks, toys, wipes, overdue library books, and of course kids.
But does a responsible mom also pack a gun?
The question was recently raised on the website BabyCenter, which chronicles all things motherhood, from conception to inconceivably picky eaters and back-talking three year olds.
On the site, a mom blogger described the terrifying experience of a mother who was attacked at home in a safe neighborhood by a rapist with a gun. The woman fought, the attacker fled, and the blogger posed a question: “Do you think that every mother should own a gun?”
The point-blank debate about point-blank defense revealed that some moms are packing heat.
“I carry a Keltec 380 (small pistol) on my hip everyday,” revealed a mother of a one year old and a two year old. “I feel comfortable knowing that I will be able to defend my kids and I if we are in a life-threatening situation.”
Another mother—eight months pregnant and with a toddler—wrote that her husband works the night shift, and “our gun is the only way I could defend myself and my children should someone intend to do us harm.”
And there was this disclosure from a police officer mom: “I keep a loaded 9mm in my Coach diaper bag.”
Suddenly, it seems, mothers with guns are everywhere—movie star moms included. Recent news reports quote actress Angelina Jolie as saying she keeps a gun at home for security, and that “if anybody comes into my home and tries to hurt my kids, I’ve no problem shooting them.”
Tell us what you think: Should a mother’s responsibility to protect her children include having a gun?

Wow! I found this site by accident? I have a very important story that a few of the people out there that believe moms should not carry guns might find interesting. My husband and I have always been very interested in guns. We find that it has been a great hobby and past time that can be used as great family quality time. I was 8 months pregnant with my first child. My husband and I had many long conversations regarding whether to keep guns in our home as I was having my first child. I had came home for lunch from work one day and any women that has ever had a child knows that the first thing you do is use the restroom. I went in through the back door and went directly to the restroom, while in there I heard a noise so I immediately pulled out my 357 S&W that I always carried on my person. My husbands work moved us around quite a bit throughout the western United Stated and not always in the greatest of cities. As I came out of the restroom with my loaded gun the persons robbing our home decided to just leave taking with them my pillow case and other loaded pistols and rifles. Had I not had that loaded gun things could have gone quite differently. As these people looked as though they would have shot me just for the pillow case. To this day I carry a concealed weapon on my person at all times. There have only been a few occasions that I have needed to pull my gun as the common rule is never pull a gun unless you are prepaired to use it. Each of these situations have been the last resort and were only to protect myself and my children. We have spent many hours at shooting ranges and hunting, These activities have kept my family very close and it not like that is all we do. We boat, camp, hunt, fish etc. my children are now 31, 21, and 18, my grandchildren are 8, 6, and 2. All but the two year old are very adept with a gun from loading, unloading, cleaning and shooting. From a young age each of these children were made very aware of what a gun is capable of doing except the 2 year old of course. As my shildren grew older the biggest concern we had was other children coming into our home, however our children always followed the rule that they called to make sure everything was locked up or put away to avoid any accidents.
What I find the most sad is there are alot of people that are either un-educated enough to try to take away the 2nd amendment on the United States. Or from the bloggs they are just so unhappy with their lives they want to criticize others without correct facts.
QUOTE:A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Most of these women that are carrying a weapon have gone through classes to be the most safe they can and are usualy adept with a weapon. I know in my heart that on two occasions having a gun on my persons has saved my life so that I may enjoy the time my family spends in the wilderness shooting. The people that are most dangerious with guns are not the mothers, fathers, sons, daughters that follow the laws but the thugs that are going to purchase guns no matter what they have to do to get them or what laws are passed and put into affect. They are the reasons that a mother/grandmother like myself carry a gun.

From a simple man
If guns were outlawed the only people that would have them is the criminals. Law abiding citizens obtain firearms for many different reasons.I remember not to long ago reading about the utter chaos in Australia when they tried to outlaw guns. Crime skyrocketed, people were desperate to protect themselves and were going as far as breaking into police cars for firearms. Finally i would like to say that a gun is merely a tool.Guns dont kill people, people kill people.Whats next turn in youre pocket knife ?

My wife has her ccw
I am suprised there is realy any question as to whether or not mothers or anyone should carry firearms. Don’t get me wrong, I find it unfortunate that anyone needs to carry a firearm but in our society anyone could become a victim at any time. That being the case, I think all lawful citizens should carry. I personally was anti-gun for a long time. I thought guns were only for ignorant red necks and criminals .I thought that any reasonable human being had no practical use for them…So what changed? It wasn’t one specific event but a few events that changed my way of thinking.
1. About 2 years ago a good friend of mine was car-jacked at gun point about 3 miles from my house.
2. My brother was the victim of a home invasion about 18 months ago. He was tied up at gun point ,thrown into his bathtub and told he was going to be killed. Luckily he was only locked in a closet for a few hours when the criminals left.
3. Another good friend of mine was mugged two days befor christmas at the ATM. The guy who mugged him fired a shot into the car but did not hit anyone.
4. I am a service manager and am often left to close out our shop which means i can be responsible for bank deposits upwards of $5000.00 and in this world there are alot of folks who just may kill me for that kind of money.
The real decision maker for my wife and I to get our ccw came when upon ariving home one day my wife recieved a letter in the mail from a neighbor (6 houses down) that graphicly described all the disgusting sexual acts that he would like to perform with her with or with out her permission. Of coarse the police were called and they informed us that even though this guy drew a map to his house(again…6 doors down) that with no witnesses to him actually putting the letter in the mailbox there was nothing that they could do… Oh did I mention this perv was a registered sex offender! Like I said last straw.
My wife was raised around firearms she grew up in a mostly male family who happened to be hunters and firearms enthusiasts. Iknew a little about guns because my family was full of gun people. I always had bb guns growing up and was (and still am) a damn good shot. I became anti-gun after Columbine. I was 16 when it happened and I bought into all the anti gun propaganda that was unleashed following the event. I now under stand that a gun can not kill by itself anymore than a pen can mis-spell a word or that a spoon will make people fat.

Training is the key
A gun, whether for hunting or personal protection is no more than a tool and any one who feels that it is the guns fault or that the gun has some responsibility for the actions of people is not trained or has no interaction with guns any more than other tools that may be dangerous if handled by uneducated users.
The protection of ones family comes before the fears of the many that today may not understand the purpose of a tool. It is your 2nd amendment right to have a gun for protection. However the gun is only as good as the handler and is of no use if the handler is not prepared to use it for its intended purpose.
We really need to get a handle on this issue as even well educated and professional people spew foolishness on this issue and the gun control people have succeeded in clouding the once clear purpose of firearms.
As in many issues the most obvious answer is normally the correct one. If good people have guns goods things can come from it. Today Mom needs a gun.

Mr
All US citizens not convicted of a violent crime should have the right to choose for themseves weather or not to own a gun. If they choose to own a gun they should further be able to own any gun they choose!

Legal gun owner.
While I am glad Jane feels secure in her home with no protection I belive I will keep my guns. I dont think someone who is going to break into my home really gives a crap if his gun is registered or for that matter stolen purchased from mexico or what ever. guns may someday be outlawed but they will never go away. In the last two months there has been 3 families terrorized raped and murdered in their own homes. Im sure the husband would have liked to have a gun while he watched his wife being raped! Thanks for your time.

None of you business
There is no registration in this country (yet) for firearms, so…..
Secondly, it’s none of your damn business whether or not someone carries, it’s just none of your business so get over your petty self.

Safety of My Son
I have NO PROBLEM carrying a weapon to protect myself and my son, when my husband is not with us and carrying his. I have had a gun safety course, licensed to carry concealed, and feel comfortable with it. And let it be known that if ANYONE tried to harm my son, they would feel my wrath, and I would NOT have a problem shooting to kill. ANY mother should feel that way about their own flesh and blood. Shame on those of you who would put a burglar or rapist’s “feelings” ahead of your children’s or your own safety!!!

“Moms + guns = death”
What manner of nonsense is this headline. What has happened to us as a people when we no longer want the right to defend ourselves?
Listen, this is simple. If you want no defense and prefer to have an attacker take your life, then you have that right. On the other hand, I want mothers and anyone else who is felony free to have the right to own a gun and have the choice to self
defense from those who means to do us grave harm.
Again, this is simple. You exercise your rights and I will mine. I will not try to take
your rights from you so please don’t do so to me.
When threatened by an attacker, I want to be able to exercise my right to “the Pursuit of life, liberty and Happiness.” (paraphrased). Dead, none those mom’s
nor I will have any of those rights, now will we?

Yes you have the right to use lethal force, with a gun to defend yourself or another person, Period. Mom’s included. I would encourage them to get good training and responsibly keep it out of reach of your kids. ( We don’t need a law here. )
Be prepared for the onslaught of pacifists who beleive the world is a perfect place, it isn’t. And be prepared for the Psycological side if you do have to kill someone to protect yourself, that will require counseling also. But be prepared…
