Growing Up
If you find it difficult sometimes to define responsibility, watch Growing Up, and see four extraordinary young people go beyond definitions to live the word in truly inspiring ways.
Chase, Siearra, Jenna, and Carlos are all students. And all wise beyond their years. Of various ages and disparate backgrounds, these kids nevertheless share a common denominator: each has taken on a measure of personal responsibility. Some small, some big.
No one demanded their actions. No one told them how to proceed. They simply saw a challenge and stepped up to the plate. With matter-of-fact eloquence, the four students deliver a profound lesson for the rest of us: There is no age requirement for doing the right thing.
Many people who face adversity see an insurmountable dead-end. These kids saw a garden and made responsibility grow.
Growing Up was created by Geoffrey O’Connor, Paul Speaker & Ken Yagoda.

I was moved to tears...
…as I listened to these kid’s extraordinary efforts in taking responsibility for the circumstances in their lives. They were presented with obstacles that could have been devastating for them but instead took brave and courages actions to handle their situations. As they saying goes, “if you are given lemons, make lemonade.”
As a parent, I would like to believe that if my children were faced with similar events, that they would make the absolute right decision even if it meant sacrifice. I truly believe that, although these children were not told to take the actions that they did, they were most definitely influenced by someone in their lives, namely their parents. I am not suggesting that their parents directly told them what to do in the situations; rather, I am applauding the parents of these children because they had to have fostered their incredible reliability and right decisions.
This article is an inspiration to me and I will have my children listen to their stories. No matter the age, we can all be heroes like these kids are.
