Be Good

Be Good

The moment of realization.

It strikes at different times for different people, with a clarity that can transform a life.

Joe’s moment comes when he’s down.

On the floor.

Of his filthy apartment.

After an all-nighter celebrating his 30th birthday.

In the film Be Good, the main character, Joe, is hung over and screwed up, a man with everything— partiesgirlsbeer! And nothing. He’s the ultimate slacker, living a life of zero relevance.

But Joe does have charm. And wicked comic timing. So armed with those attributes, he embarks on a hilarious mission to inject some responsibility into his life.

It’s a cosmic crash diet that’s sometimes only a crash. But as Joe steers wildly and impulsively through the trials of becoming a responsible person, he’s more shocked than anyone at the surprise ending that finally gives meaning to his life.

Be Good was directed by Barney Cokeliss.

be good

My comment about this short film is actually this: when you finally find yourself and want to do the right thing “in society’s eyes” if it don’t go accordingly, you are looked at “as in this scene of the old woman thinking he was attacking her” — all eyes was not on the good he was trying to do, but instead “society saw him doing a wrong thing”. Oh my goodness, “he is attacking an old woman.” that is all they saw because of her response to him.

only if you really want things

I believe that only if you believe in yourself and want to do something only then it will happen, people should never give up no matter how hard they fall. I have done it lots of times and I always get what I want

Be Good

It seemed to me that the main shift of the story didn’t happen when Joe woke up after his party but when he finally “gave Up” near the end of the film. Trying to be something seems to lead to confusion, misunderstanding and possibly a black eye. Joe’s need to be “the good” was based on the cultures images and definition of good. What Joe seemed to discover is that the good can only happen when we accept what is actual in the moment without an image. “the good” is alive and well in every moment and all we have to do is stop thinking and start being. The good surrounds all creatures great and small.
